DeKalb man found guilty of attempted murder in connection with 2021 shooting in DuPage County

A DeKalb man was found guilty Friday of first-degree attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm stemming from a shooting in DuPage County in 2021.

Authorities say on January 28, 2021, 38-year-old Ahmad Steele pulled into the parking lot of Mapei Corporation in West Chicago and approached the driver’s side of an employee’s vehicle with a shotgun. The employee was sitting in the vehicle during his dinner break. Steele fired into the vehicle, striking the victim in the face, before walking back to his vehicle. Steele did not know the victim before the shooting.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries and underwent five surgeries to reconstruct his jaw. He passed away in 2023 from an unrelated illness…
