A fatal crash on Chicago’s South Side resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to a man Thursday night; the incident was on southbound Interstate 57 near Halsted Street, per Illinois State Police reports. As noted by ABC 7 Chicago, the accident occurred just after 9 p.m. when a Chevrolet Impala, for reasons yet unclear, lost control and veered off the road, climbing an embankment and eventually making fatal contact with a tree.
The details surrounding the crash are limited but the aftermath was grave, the woman who was driving was pronounced dead at the scene while the male passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition has not been made public; this scene of emergency and the investigation that ensued had southbound lanes of I-57 closed until the early hours, around 1:50 a.m. which was a significant disruption for the drivers who were on the road at that time.
