Felon gets 12 years for mugging 92-year-old man, possessing a firearm

CHICAGO — A man who escaped from electronic monitoring to mug a 92-year-old man at a South Side ATM has been given a 12-year prison sentence.

D’Marco Roby, 27, was on parole for the gun cases in September 2022; Chicago police officers said he dropped a firearm while running from them in Englewood. He remained in custody on a Class X felony gun charge until February 2024. That’s when Judge Laura Ayala-Gonzalez, reviewing his pretrial conditions under the SAFE-T Act, sent him home on an ankle monitor, court records show.
