On April 2, 2025, at 8:34 a.m., Officers responded to a residence in the 5500 block of Meadowbrook Street after a 911 call had been received from a 47- year-old male in the residence indicating that someone was possibly threatening another person in the home with a firearm. Officers immediately established a perimeter around the residence. A shelter in place order was given for residents in the area and nearby schools were notified to enact appropriate safety protocols.
The Joliet Police Department Special Operations Squad and Crisis Negotiator Team were deployed to the scene. Announcements were given for the occupants to exit the home at which time the 47-year-old male caller and his two adult sons eventually exited the home. No other occupants were located in the residence and a shotgun was recovered, following a search of the home. After speaking to the individuals involved, it was believed that no one was in danger and the 47-year-old male may have experienced a mental health episode that precipitated this incident.
