Illinois Weather Could Have Large Hail, Dangerous Storms Thursday

Most of Illinois is bracing for the return of severe weather that’s expected to move through beginning Thursday evening (4/17).

Storm Threat Ramps Up Thursday Night

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, there is a “slight risk” (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather across a large portion of the state in the later hours of Thursday.

The biggest threat of this storm will likely be large hail, but damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall could also be included, with storms expected to continue through Friday, according to the Weather Channel.

Spring Storm Pattern Returns After Tornado Lull

We’ve had a relatively quiet stretch of weather over the past several weeks, but the end is near.

Following an April outbreak that saw over 140 tornadoes across the U.S., which is typical for Spring, the weather pattern is reportedly shifting back toward increased storm activity across the Rockford region and the Chicagoland area.

Flooding may also be a concern as repeated rounds of rainfall are expected with this weather system, with low-lying and poor-drainage areas being the most vulnerable…
