ILLINOIS — A chaotic shoplifting incident at a local Walmart led to the arrest of a combative Joliet man last week after he assaulted multiple officers and resisted arrest, police said.
35-year-old Armondo Arredondo was detained by the Joliet Police Department on June 18 at the Walmart located in the 2400 block of West Jefferson Street. He now faces multiple charges, including:
- Aggravated battery to a police officer (2 counts)

- Retail theft
Incident Escalated During Arrest
According to police spokesperson Tizoc Landeros, the situation escalated shortly after officers responded to a call from Walmart’s loss prevention team around 10 a.m. The team had witnessed Arredondo concealing merchandise in his pockets.
When confronted near the store’s exit, Arredondo tried to push past the staff, prompting officers to assist in detaining him. While being escorted to the store’s loss prevention office, he allegedly provided a false name and date of birth.
