Bolingbrook puts new restrictions on e-bikes, e-scooters

WILL COUNTY, Ill. (WGN) — Bolingbrook’s Board of Trustees on Tuesday evening passed rules regulating the use of electronic bikes and scooters in the municipality.

The ordinance, an amendment to Village Code 50-4, prohibits any e-bike or e-scooter with a motor exceeding 750 watts.

The e-bike regulations also mandate the existence of pedals and requires the bike’s crossbars be labeled with the bike’s classification, the maximum wattage of the motor, and the top assisted speed. E-bikes can only be used on roadways and riders must abide by the bicycle Rules of the Road…
