ILLINOIS — Grocery shoppers in three Chicago suburbs will soon see local Mariano’s stores shuttered, as parent company Kroger confirms it will permanently close the locations later this summer as part of a national efficiency strategy.
Which Mariano’s Locations Are Closing?
Kroger officials announced the exact closure dates and store addresses this week:
- Buffalo Grove – 450 W. Half Day Road, closing August 8
- Bloomingdale – 144 S. Gary Ave., closing August 15
- Glenview West (Northbrook) – 2323 Capital Dr., closing August 22
The decision affects a mix of stores across Cook and DuPage counties and is part of what Kroger called a broader effort to “run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business,” according to FOX 32 Chicago.
Will Employees Lose Their Jobs?
The company says it will offer workers at the affected locations the option to transfer to other nearby Kroger-operated stores. While the number of impacted employees hasn’t been made public, the company emphasized retention efforts are in place.
Kroger, which operates more than 2,700 supermarkets under multiple brand names, employs approximately 410,000 associates and serves over 11 million customers daily across the U.S.
More Store Closures Expected Nationwide
The upcoming Chicago-area closures are just a fraction of Kroger’s larger national plan. In a recent financial disclosure, the company reported it will shut down approximately 60 stores over the next 18 months.
