Blue Line killer tried to escape on shopping mall shuttle bus, Chicago police say

Police say the man who fatally stabbed another Blue Line passenger on a train near Rosemont last week attempted to flee by jumping onto a shopping mall shuttle bus. Lawrence Strother, 66, didn’t get far, thanks to Rosemont police officers.

A witness on the train told police that Strother and 42-year-old Jason Rowinski got into an argument while riding an inbound train between O’Hare and Rosemont around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25.

During the argument, Strother pulled out a knife and stabbed Rowinski once in the left knee, according to a Chicago police report. The injury proved fatal, and a doctor pronounced Rowinski dead at Lutheran General Hospital less than 30 minutes later.

Rosemont police initially responded to the incident. Their officers learned that Strother exited the train at the Rosemont station and boarded a shopping mall shuttle.
