A chaotic scene unfolded in downtown Chicago late Friday night when a Maywood man allegedly carjacked a taxi driver, ran him over, assaulted a woman, and fought with police officers before finally being subdued and taken into custody. A bystander recorded the arrest, which was, to say the least, difficult.
According to Chicago police, Maurice McDowell, 43, was arrested just before midnight at 10 South Wabash Avenue after a violent series of events that began moments earlier on the same street.
Investigators say McDowell forcibly pulled a 36-year-old taxi driver from his vehicle near Madison and Wabash, then drove over the victim with the stolen cab. He allegedly crashed the vehicle a short distance away, then attacked a 45-year-old woman on the street, striking her in the face.
Officers quickly found McDowell nearby, blocking the roadway. As they tried to arrest him, he fought back, battering officers and actively resisting before being subdued and taken into custody, according to CPD…
