A DuPage County man has been handed a 30-year sentence for the 2023 murder of Victor Garcia following his guilty plea. Kevin Krenc, 32, faced charges for shooting Garcia five times during a confrontation at a birthday party in Bensenville. According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office, tensions had escalated over allegations of theft and disrespect before Krenc committed the act.
In the wake of the event, Krenc attempted to flee after hiding the weapon, but was apprehended by law enforcement on October 17, 2023, without incident. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office quickly connected Krenc to the crime, finding the rifle used in Garcia’s murder hidden in a basement vent at his residence. “For the unprovoked, senseless killing of Victor Garcia, a father of three with a fourth child on the way at the time of his murder, Kevin Krenc will spend the next thirty years of his life away from society, where he will be unable to harm anyone,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin was quoted as saying in the official statement.
Garcia’s death, which occurred on Church Road where Krenc held his birthday gathering, pulled the trigger on a long process of investigation and judicial proceedings. The case culminated with Krenc’s plea of guilty to one count of first-degree murder.
