One arrested, one wanted in Kendall County chicken fighting case

One person was arrested and another is being sought on charges related to gamefowl—or chicken—fighting in Kendall County.

A Kendall County Sheriff’s Office investigation and search warrant in the 1100 block of Route 126 in Na-Au-Say Township back in May resulted in multiple animal torture and sport fighting charges for 51-year-old Jose Alicea-Reyes and 56-year-old Lydia Ramirez, both of Plainfield. The two were also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a FOID card.

Ramirez was arrested on May 21 and released on pretrial conditions. Police are still looking for Alicea-Reyes.

The sheriff’s office says more than 420 chickens were recovered. Some were sent to rescue organizations, while others that were too aggressive or unsafe had to be euthanized…
