A bollix at the Rosemont Blue Line station unfolded early Tuesday when a man claimed a van parked nearby contained a bomb, halting trains and inciting an emergency response before police determined the bomb threat wasn’t legitimate, the incident starting around 9:35 a.m. when a motorist attempting to park was warned by a 55-year-old Bolingbrook man, who was curiously atop the van, cautioning “Don’t park there because there’s a bomb in this van” as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Rosemont Police hastily evacuated the area and summoned a bomb squad for a thorough search of the silver Sprinter van that, aside from a collection of tools, held no explosives; Rosemont Police Lt. Joe Balogh revealed to the Chicago Sun-Times that after careful inspection nothing “crazy suspicious” deterred the bomb squad, the police in the end arresting the Bolingbrook man who also allegedly infiltrated a Ford Mustang nearby, the vehicle left unharmed with nothing missing and the owner declining to press charges.
