Wilmington Man In Custody After Abusing Girlfriend, Threatening Officers

A Wilmington man is behind bars after he’s accused of attacking his girlfriend, then threatening officers.

Joliet Police responded to the Motel 6 on McDonough Street on the west side for a report of a disturbance. There they found 36-year-old Michael Hanson, who was accused of repeatedly knocking on doors at the motel. It was also determined that Hanson allegedly struck his girlfriend and pulled her hair. Officers made contact with Hanson, who appeared to be agitated and injured by unknown means. Hanson refused medical assistance. During this interaction, it is alleged that Hanson was acting erratic and grabbed an Officer’s hand and pushed it away and then swung at the Officer but missed.

Hanson then retreated into a guest room. Hanson refused repeated commands and began pointing his cell phone and other objects at Officers in the form of a weapon while concealing himself. Officers ultimately forced entry into the room due to Hanson’s continued threatening behavior. Hanson was taken into custody following a brief struggle. While being escorted to a patrol car, Hanson continued to resist, kicked an Officer, and later spit at another Officer during transport. Hanson was transported directly to the Will Count Adult Detention Facility, where he remains in custody…
