165 Illinois Food Service Jobs Lost in Sudden Layoffs

The business world can be harsh. When contracts are lost, that often results in the job loss for those who were supposed to fulfill them. That reportedly just happened for 165 Illinois food service workers who will soon be jobless for that reason according to new notices submitted to the state.

What is a WARN notice?

Wikipedia details what the 1988 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act involves. The short version is it’s meant to be a protection for workers mandating that they receive 60 days warning before a layoff for companies with 100 or more employees.

I saw two reports of WARN notices posted just a few days ago, but wanted to do some more research to get confirmation that what I was seeing was real. There are two notices, both concerning Compass Group. The first location is 2233 W. Division Street in Chicago. The second location is 7435 W. Talcott Avenue also in Chicago. The notice submitted to the state of Illinois says the Division street location will be laying off 83 workers effective October 31, 2025. The other says that the Talcott location will let 82 workers go on that same day…
