Joliet man killed in crash involving tractor trailer

JOLIET, Ill. (WGN) – A man died in a crash involving a tractor trailer Friday afternoon in Joliet.

The Joliet Police Department said the crash happened just before 1 p.m. near the intersection of South Chicago Street (Route 53) and Schweitzer Road.

According to police, a Kenworth tractor trailer being driven by a 54-year-old man from Georgia was leaving a business in the 3400 block of South Chicago Street and facing eastbound.

Investigators believe the tractor trailer then initiated a left turn toward northbound South Chicago Street and hit a Chevrolet Sonic being driven by a 28-year-old Joliet man and traveling southbound on South Chicago Street.
