Video: Bodycam Footage Shows Dog Assisting Police in Rescuing Him

You know those videos that stick with you because they feel like a little miracle? That’s exactly what happened with Oakley, a four-year-old Staffy who found himself right in the middle of a house fire in Aurora, Illinois. Luckily, the Aurora Police Department showed up fast, and the bodycam footage they released tells the whole story. Smoke everywhere, officers breaking down doors, searching rooms one by one — and then there’s Oakley. What he did next will leave you both relieved and amazed at Oakley’s quick thinking.

Instagram video shows dog leading police to his leash when they arrive to rescue him

A recent video by @aurorapoliceil picked up likes quickly, with thousands of people watching and sharing it across social media. You watch the officers push through all that smoke, and suddenly they come across this sweet dog behind a door. He runs out of the room, as though saying, “Okay, let’s get out of here.”

You can almost see the relief in his eyes the second he spots the officers. And here’s the best part: instead of freaking out, he actually leads the officers straight to his leash, like he knew exactly what needed to happen next. It was such a small thing, but it showed how calm and clever Oakley can be.

The leash moment is what really got people though. One commenter wrote, “Thank you for saving Oakley!!! He is such a good boy going to his leash to help the officer!” Another added, “Amazing job by both investigators and for saving that precious pup! Heroes!”…
