Two people were found dead at a Plainfield property early Monday morning, according to a press release from the Joliet Police Department. Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of Burshire Court at around 5:49 a.m. after multiple 911 calls reported what sounded like gunshots coming from the residence.
Officers arrived and found a 40-year-old man on the front lawn unresponsive with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon entering the home, officers found an unresponsive 40-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. During a search of the home, four unharmed children were found and placed in protective custody before being released to another family member.
The Kendall County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Ryan and Jennifer Heit of Plainfield. Their preliminary causes of death were ruled to be from gunshot wounds, but forensic autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.
