The Oswego Police Department’s investigation into a fatal accident at Portillo’s on Route 34 earlier this year is still ongoing, according to Police Chief Jason Bastin. On July 30, a car driven by a Michigan woman drove through the front entrance area of the restaurant, killing a two-year-old boy and injuring over a dozen others.
Bastin says the department handed its findings from their investigation over to the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office for a review. Following the review, it is up to the State’s Attorney’s Office to decide if any charges are warranted.
“Typically, when we send cases over, three things can happen. One, they could approve charges, they cannot approve charges, or they may tell us, ‘Hey, is that, can you look into this or look into that?’ And that’s the reason why we have them review those cases, and this is a very in-depth investigation. So it takes them a while to review everything we’ve done. Because it’s just, it’s literally a big case that they have. It takes anyone, it would take them a long time to read through everything we have in this investigation.”…
