For a few nights before Halloween, West Chicago’s Park District opens its annual “Spooky Trail,” packed full of fun and exciting thrills for people of all ages. This year the schedule is open Thursday, the 23, and Friday, the 24, 6:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m., and Saturday, the 25, 7:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
The trail features multiple scare zones—such as the Zombie Graveyard, The Asylum, Kill Camp, and more. The trail centers on a legend that originated in Reed Keppler Park, referred to as the “Curse of the Spooky Trail.” At the start of the trail, people are welcomed into the terror by being told the ancient tale. After that, guests venture into the forest to be met with all sorts of frightening ghouls, zombies, maniacs, and more.
Sarah Witteck, Recreation Manager of the West Chicago Park District, is the main organizer of the event. Witteck is the mastermind behind it all and brings the event to life behind the scenes…
