Menominee family with Wisconsin ties has treaty for land that holds Chicago suburb, forest

A Menominee family hopes Illinois officials are becoming aware of land stolen from them, especially after the state returned land to a tribe for the first time in recent history.

Jessica Pamonicutt, a Menominee tribal member who lives in Stickney, Illinois, said she and her family, have been trying to persuade Illinois officials for years to return land near O’Hare International Airport.

“It would be nice to get the land back because it was ceded illegally,” Pamonicutt said. “It’s the story of this country honestly. And it’s disheartening.”…
