Suspect wanted in connection with Cicero homicide arrested in New Mexico for driving stolen vehicle, authorities say

QUAY COUNTY, N.M. — A suspect wanted in connection with a homicide in west suburban Cicero was arrested Tuesday evening by New Mexico State Police while driving a stolen vehicle registered to the homicide victim, according to authorities.

The suspect, Naman Alfredo Vazquez, is awaiting extradition back to Illinois. He’s alleged by Cicero Police Department detectives to have shot, killed and then burned a homicide victim before fleeing Illinois.

On Monday, Nov. 3, Cicero first responders working to extinguish a house fire discovered a middle-aged man shot to death. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the man had been shot in the head before the blaze.

However, concerning the connection between that incident and the New Mexico arrest, a Cicero police spokesperson told WGN-TV on Wednesday evening, “Cicero police have not secured criminal charges against anyone by the name of (Naman Alfredo Vazquez). As it relates to Monday night’s fire, detectives have identified a person of interest, but it is an ongoing investigation.”

According to authorities, at around 5 p.m. Tuesday, a New Mexico State Police officer on patrol in Quay County received a license plate reader hit indicating a stolen vehicle from Illinois was going west on Interstate 40.
