HANOVER PARK, Ill. (WGN) — The October arrest of a suburban police officer by immigration agents had all of hoopla we’ve come to expect from Homeland Security: A right wing influencer and his camera crew tagged along, an administration official went on Fox News to decry sanctuary policies, and social media outrage that a ‘criminal illegal immigrant’ was allowed to carry a gun.
But two weeks later – and without fanfare – Hanover Park police officer Radule Bojovic was released from federal custody on a $2,500 bond set by an immigration judge, WGN Investigates has learned.
“$2,500 bond tells me that the judge thought he was not a danger to the community and not a flight risk either,” said Sam Cole, a former immigration judge who is the chief immigration counsel for ACLU of Illinois. “It’s a very low bond and it’s reflective of someone who the judge is not concerned about.”
