Convicted McCook mayor Jeffrey Tobolski dies ahead of reporting for prison

COOK COUNTY, Ill. — The former mayor of suburban McCook, Jeffrey Tobolski, died Sunday after being convicted this summer for bribery.

Tobolski, 61, was sentenced in August to four years in prison after pleading guilty to accepting more than a quarter of a million dollars in bribes and extortion payments over several years. He faced up to 14 years in prison.
