Illinois employers report 1,600 job losses in October amid national labor shock

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois employers reported 1,600 job losses in October, according to state WARN filings.

The biggest hits came from Momence’s Baker & Taylor (318 jobs), DeKalb’s wiring manufacturer Panduit (185), and Virgin Hotels Chicago (180).

But, the local story is dwarfed by a national labor shock as companies across the U.S. announced 153,074 job cuts in October, representing a 175% spike since 2024 and the worst since October 2003…
