CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) – Chicago police are investigating two violent attacks near the University of Illinois Chicago campus early Monday, less than a half-mile and an hour apart, though it remains unclear whether the incidents are connected.
The first attack happened around 1 a.m. near Canal Street and 14th Place. Police said a 40-year-old man was walking when an assailant on a bicycle approached, struck him several times with an unknown object, stole his belongings and fled.
About an hour later, officers on patrol discovered a second victim near Roosevelt Road and Jefferson Street. The 44-year-old man told police he had been assaulted by two men, one of whom was armed with an axe. The offenders ran from the scene before officers arrived…
