Early Wednesday, two off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s deputies were fired upon outside Mount Sinai Hospital, a situation confirmed by the Sheriff’s office and Chicago police. The deputies were traveling north on the 1500 block of South California Avenue around 3:30 a.m. when they encountered gunfire from a nearby silver sedan. According to details provided by WGN News, the assailant’s shots came from the passenger side, aiming at the deputies’ vehicle.
The bullets did not, fortunately, meet flesh, leaving the deputies unharmed. Their vehicle, however, wasn’t as lucky, being struck by the gunfire. As reported by ABC7 Chicago, following the attack, the perpetrator’s vehicle was seen fleeing eastbound. Cook County Sheriff’s Office and Chicago police have jointly confirmed the deputies were not on duty when the incident occurred.
