ATWOOD, Ill. (WCIA) — A Cook County man was arrested for allegedly stealing a debit card intended for an Atwood resident, and spending thousands of dollars with the victim’s bank information over the last several months.
In a press release from the Atwood Police Department, they said on Nov. 26, a man intercepted a UPS package containing the debit card of a 74-year-old Atwood resident. This suspect was able to present the tracking information to the UPS driver, and the UPS driver gave him the package.

The stolen debit card was then used to make several purchases. Atwood Police’s investigation revealed that someone had obtained the victim’s bank account information several months ago and had spent several thousand dollars over the last several months in places like Champaign, Chicago and several locations in Indiana.
On Dec. 16, UPS called Atwood Police and advised that a black male, wearing a yellow vest and driving a black 4-door car, approached a delivery driver at Sloan’s Implement in Atwood.
