COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WGN) — At the Cook County Building, a coalition of African American pastors rang the bell for what they said is an economic emergency.
Rev. Ira Acree and clergy representing 20 different churches throughout Cook County told WGN-TV their congregation members, predominantly from the city’s South and West Sides, are being priced out of their homes because of skyrocketing property taxes.
“It is disproportionate and unjust,” Acree said. “The property tax burden here in Chicago on the West and South Sides, residents are being crushed by these astronomical increases.”…
