BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WCHS) — A man from Chicago was sentenced Wednesday for his role in a scheme to smuggle banned items into a federal prison in McDowell County, attorneys said.
Arturo Joel Gallegos, 27, received three years of federal probation for his role in the incident, which occurred on Feb. 1, 2024, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.
Court records said that Gallegos traveled with two other men, 23-year-old Miguel Angel Aleman-Piceno and 25-year-old Francisco Alejandro Gonzalez, from Chicago to Welch with items prohibited in federal prison, including tobacco, multiple cell phones, chargers, phone cards and marijuana…
