CHICAGO – An Illinois State Police (ISP) squad car was damaged on I-88 when it was struck by another vehicle during a traffic crash investigation.
On January 8, 2026, at approximately 7:34 p.m., an ISP Trooper was pulled over on the left shoulder of I-88 eastbound near milepost 135 with their emergency lights activated investigating a single vehicle rollover crash. A Tollway Maintenance truck was also on scene positioned behind the ISP squad car assisting with recovery of the crashed vehicle. A black Acura passenger car failed to slow down while negotiating a curve and spun out, striking both the Tollway Maintenance truck’s towed unit and the passenger side of the Trooper’s squad car. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The Trooper and Tollway Maintenance driver were each inside of their vehicles at the time of the crash, but reported no injuries. The driver of the Acura was transported to an area hospital with injuries and was issued several traffic citations, including a Scott’s Law citation. The investigation is ongoing.
In 2026, ISP has suffered 2 Move Over Law-related crashes. In 2025, ISP reported 14 Move Over Law-related crashes with seven Troopers injured. In 2024, ISP had 12 Move Over Law-related crashes with one death.
