Man with 57 arrests pleads guilty in random Loop pipe attack, will not go to prison

A man with a long history of randomly attacking people in the Loop has pleaded guilty to viciously, randomly attacking a man with a pipe in the heart of downtown, but despite that history, the resolution of the case will not require him to spend any time in prison.

Around 9:45 a.m. on December 8, 2022, a 53-year-old man was walking in the 100 block of West Madison Street when Piere Thorne attacked him from behind with a metal object, according to prosecutors.

Court records state that Thorne, 32, grabbed the object, possibly a metal pipe, from the ground, walked behind the victim, whom he did not know, and struck him in the back of the head. The victim immediately fell to the sidewalk and began bleeding heavily from the back of his head. Prosecutors said he suffered additional injuries to his face when he struck the ground…
