NEW LENOX, Ill. — A railroad theft in Will County ended in southwest suburban New Lenox with one suspect in custody after a police chase Saturday morning, but local authorities say another suspect remains on the loose.
According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified by Burlington Northern Santa Fe police around 7:30 a.m. Saturday of a possible theft in progress at a railroad crossing at Lorenzo and Cottage roads in Wilmington Township.

When deputies arrived, authorities say, they found several people wearing ski masks inside two vehicles near the tracks. When deputies subsequently attempted traffic stops, the drivers of a black van and a gray SUV fled the scene and headed north on I-55, where one of those vehicles hit another car.
