CHICAGO — A child and a good Samaritan were rescued from Lake Michigan on Wednesday at Chicago’s Belmont Harbor.
According to Chicago police, an 8-month-old girl in a stroller fell into the water at around 3 p.m.
Lio Cundiff was nearby and on the phone with his aunt, wishing her a happy birthday. That’s when he noticed the wind picked up, and then everything unfolded. He realized what had happened and jumped into the water to help rescue the baby.

“I made sure to keep the stroller up because the baby was stuck in the stroller, so I needed to keep the stroller and her head up the whole time,” Cundiff said. “I didn’t speak to the mom much at all. I think she was just really panicked. I think she was Ukrainian possibly, so there was a language barrier. When you’re surrounded by people who don’t speak the same language as you and….I just hope she’s okay.”…
