Delivery driver killed in a Chicago carjacking

Daniel Figueroa had just completed a delivery at Loretto Hospital on Chicago’s West Side when he walked outside and saw someone trying to take his van.

He grabbed on. He was dragged half a block down West Flournoy Street. He never recovered.

Figueroa, 28, of Downers Grove, was found unresponsive just after 2 a.m. Monday outside the hospital in the Austin neighborhood. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his death, and Chicago police have opened a homicide investigation.

How the delivery went wrong

The order had been placed by a doctor at Loretto Hospital through UberEats, according to a police report obtained by the Chicago Tribune.
