Illinois ranks No. 2 in corporate relocation, tops in Chicago metro area

CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois has once again secured a top position in Site Selection Magazine’s annual rankings of corporate relocation and expansion activity, recording 680 business projects in 2025 and earning the No. 2 statewide ranking for the fourth consecutive year.

The magazine’s new 2026 “Governor’s Cup” cycle, released this month and based on calendar‑year 2025 activity, also places the Chicago–Naperville–Elgin metro area at No. 1 nationally for the 13th year in a row, the longest such streak in the country.

Site Selection’s rankings are based on verified capital‑investment, job‑creation, and facility‑expansion data. To qualify, a project must involve at least $1 million in investment, 20 or more new jobs, or 20,000 or more square feet of new or renovated space…
