Health Tips to Prevent Tick Bites in DuPage County

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County reminds residents to protect themselves from ticks as temperatures rise. The Illinois Department of Public Health advises:

  • Use repellent with DEET or picaridin
  • Wear light-colored clothing and tuck pants into socks
  • Stay on the center of trails and avoid tall grass
  • Check yourself, children, and pets daily
  • Shower after outdoor activity

If you find a tick, remove it quickly and monitor for rash or fever. Contact a doctor if any illness develops after a tick bite.
