The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County reminds residents to protect themselves from ticks as temperatures rise. The Illinois Department of Public Health advises:
- Use repellent with DEET or picaridin
- Wear light-colored clothing and tuck pants into socks
- Stay on the center of trails and avoid tall grass
- Check yourself, children, and pets daily
- Shower after outdoor activity
If you find a tick, remove it quickly and monitor for rash or fever. Contact a doctor if any illness develops after a tick bite.
