CAROL STREAM, Ill. (WGN) — A man is dead after a workplace accident involving a crane at a full-service distribution site in west suburban Carol Stream.
The Carol Stream Fire Protection District confirmed that a non-criminal death investigation is underway after first responders arrived in the 400 block of Saint Paul Blvd, at S & S International, also known as Specialty Rolled Metals, LLC, just after noon on Tuesday.
Further investigation revealed that a 55-year-old male employee had been attempting to load a large metal spool onto a flatbed truck using an overhead crane. According to police, during the operation, the crane gave way, causing the spool to fall from an undisclosed height and fall on the victim.
