A skydiving great-great grandmother? You betcha we want to write a story.
Reporter Charles Runnells got that opportunity this week and what a thrill to read about 101-year-old Lila Rockwell’s decision to jump out of a perfectly good airplane at 14,000 feet.
One of the best quotes Charles captured: “We were in freefall…And I thought, ‘Lila, what in the heck are you doing?'”
Thankfully the parachute opened and all was good. Lila just may have inspired me enough to want to take the plunge.
Another thriller that happened in the last week was the Naples Winter Wine Festival.
Diana Biederman reported that it was a veritable who’s who of world-class vintners, celebrity chefs and the names to know in Naples all under the tents during the 24th annual auction.
What’s amazing is the event raised $33 million(plus another $1 million from the online auction). WOW!
And that money stays here to benefit nonprofits who are addressing services that support Collier’s underprivileged children. That’s on top of almost $302 million raised since it began in 2001.
