It’s time to buy more plants for the garden! During a rainy, gloomy, and cold day in January, a reporter traveled to Fort Myers Beach to see how the tourists are handling the gloom. The goal was to check on how people felt about the weather since they were visiting here and expecting warm sunshine. As I listened to the evening news, I was surprised by a tourist’s response: “It sure is better than where I traveled from up north.”
I’ve also recently heard a similar statement from some of our visitors. For those on vacation to sunny Florida from the northern states, even a gloomy day is still heavenly compared to the frigid weather they left behind.
I’ve also asked some of my co-workers how they feel about the unusually overcast skies. Again, the response wasn’t what I expected. After a summer of extreme heat and humidity, most Floridians are happy to have a reprieve from the steamy weather. It felt good to be able to wear a flannel shirt or a sweater for a change. This time of year, working in the garden is a pleasant experience. During the summer months in Florida, working outdoors can be extremely difficult.
