Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ Celebrates New Church and Senior Minister

Sunday, February 18 at 10 am, Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ (SCUCC) will once again welcome all to celebrate the Installation of Rev. Dr. Mark Boyea, as well as the Dedication of church Sanctuary and grounds following hurricane Ian. Sunday’s worship service begins at 10 am, with fellowship following the service. The church is located at 2050 Periwinkle Way in Sanibel.

Rev. Dr. Boyea and his family had accepted the call to SCUCC earlier in 2022, relocated to Southwest Florida and led only a few worship services on Sanibel before the Category 4 hurricane decimated the Islands. Beyond the significant damage the church’s physical structure incurred, Rev. Dr. Boyea’s Installation as ministerial leader of SCUCC was also postponed more than 16 months.

February 18th’s milestone worship, Installation and Dedication service changes all that — and celebrates God’s unending blessings and promises of hope, renewal and rebirth.

“It’s been quite a journey to this day for all of us in the SCUCC spiritual community,” he says. “It’s required a lot of patience, flexibility, endurance and teamwork. Like it’s been for so many on Sanibel and throughout the rest of Southwest Florida, there have been days of one step forward, two steps back. But these 16 months have also brought us enormous blessing and reward, in that they have made us stronger, more connected and more determined to carry on the vital spirit and history of SCUCC. And through it all, one thing has never wavered — the trust that with God’s help, and together, we would see this day.
