A small jet crash on I-75 in Collier County, Florida, results in two fatalities after the aircraft collides with a vehicle, with the NTSB taking over the investigation.
The Bombardier Challenger 600 jet, carrying five people, encountered a dual engine failure and crashed around 3:15 p.m. near mile marker 107 at Pine Ridge Road, as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and reported by WFLA.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the plane and two vehicles in the southbound lanes were involved in the crash.
The pilot had reported the engine failure while on approach to Naples Airport, according to a spokesperson for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
According to the report, the aircraft had departed from Ohio State University Airport in Columbus, Ohio, en route to Naples Airport.
It was noted by NBC affiliate WCMH in Columbus that the plane was not affiliated with the university. FAA registration data indicates that the plane is registered to a company based in Broward County.
