Lee County authorities have shared updates on the Corkscrew Road Widening project, currently in its first two phases. Phase 1 includes widening Corkscrew Road to six lanes from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Fire House Lane, and to four lanes up to Bella Terra Boulevard. The paving schedule for new westbound lanes has been adjusted due to weather. On February 25, traffic will be redirected during the night to allow for median work. This will open turn lanes at several intersections, though some may temporarily close for final work.

The contractor is installing signs, guardrails, sod, and fencing, and continuing concrete work for curbs and sidewalks. The bridge/wildlife crossing painting will begin the week of February 19, potentially causing further traffic shifts. The sidewalk from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Stoneybrook Golf Drive is now open, with some areas temporarily surfaced. The Village of Estero is overseeing the shared use path construction.

Phase 2 involves building four 11-foot-wide lanes from Bella Terra Boulevard to just east of Alico Road, and adding a new traffic signal at the Alico Road intersection. The project also includes bike lanes, a 10-foot-wide shared use path, a 6-foot sidewalk, and street lighting. The median will be landscaped with various trees and shrubs.
