Naples woman dead after crashing into parked unmarked Collier sheriff’s cruiser, FHP says

A 59-year-old Naples woman is dead after authorities say she crashed head-on against a parked unmarked Collier County Sheriff’s Office cruiser.

The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. Thursday along Oil Well Road, near Oil Well Grade Road, in Immokalee, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

Troopers said the Toyota RAV4 SUV, driven by the 59-year-old woman, was traveling east on Oil Well Road, while the unmarked cruiser was parked on the north shoulder emergency lane, facing west on Oil Well Road.

Authorities said the 59-year-old Naples woman veered left onto the emergency lane, and crashed head-on with the unmarked cruiser.

The 59-year-old woman died on scene. She is one of at least 22 fatalities stemming from Collier County crashes this year.

Troopers identified the sheriff’s deputy as a 54-year-old Naples woman. Her rank and the extent of her injuries remained undisclosed Friday morning.
