Estero-based airline to pay nearly $85K to resolve allegations it underpaid female workers

Estero-based Western Global Airlines will pay nearly $85,000 in back wages and interest to resolve allegations of gender-based pay discrimination at its headquarters.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of Labor announced its Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs had reached a settlement with the airline, stemming from a routine review required of federal contractors.

Since 2023, Western Global has earned more than $4.5 million from federal contracts to provide scheduled freight air transportation services to the Department of Defense’s U.S. Transportation Command.

The routine review of the company last year prompted concerns about its base pay and bonuses for its female managers, support professionals, technicians and administrators.

The compliance agency found the airline violated the law governing federal contractors that prohibits them from discriminating against employees based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or national origin.
