COLLIER COUNTY, Florida — Jason Mario Orlando has been sentenced to 52 months in prison followed by one year of probation for DUI-related charges. He was convicted in August after a three-day trial in Collier County.Assistant State Attorneys Sarah Woodward and Laura Mason prosecuted the case. The incident occurred on January 7, 2021, at approximately 6:30 a.m. when Orlando was driving northbound on County Road 850. He drifted into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with another car and subsequently hitting a third vehicle, causing all three to crash.One of the victims, the driver of the second vehicle, approached Orlando, who was found leaning against the steering wheel. Orlando reportedly asked for help to leave the scene, admitting he was drunk. Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash and observed open cans of beer in Orlando’s car, including one between the driver’s door and seat, several behind the driver’s seat, and others on the front passenger floorboard.The driver of the first car hit suffered significant injuries and identified Orlando as the driver responsible for the crash. Orlando’s blood alcohol level was recorded at .195, and he also had THC and cocaine in his system. All individuals involved were taken to the hospital, where a trooper interviewed Orlando and noted the smell of alcohol emanating from him, according to a statement from the Office of the State Attorney, Amira Fox.
