The nonprofit Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance held its eighth annual Orchid Show and Sale fundraiser on March 21-23 at North Collier Regional Park, with a record 325 entries. Among the highlights, American Orchid Society judges presented 17 national awards for flower quality, cultural excellence and exhibit design. Five members were able to add a personal clonal name to their awarded orchids. Steven Burdette won Best in Show for a Dendrobium farmeri that he purchased as a fourinch “bag baby” at a home improvement store seven years ago and nurtured into a plant with more than 1,600 flowers.
