Four abandoned sailboat after fire, sinking off Marco Island

Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted in the rescue of four people who were forced to abandon their sailboat after it caught fire off the coast of Marco Island on Wednesday.

With heavy winds and rough waters, the sheriff’s Marine Bureau deputies located the sailboat west of Shell Island near Cape Romano, south of Marco, about 9 a.m.
