On Tuesday The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation distributed $107,820 to 14 local 501c3 organizations, other local groups, and students who received scholarship money. The Foundation’s annual money distribution event was held at The Island’s Pancake House this year.
The 501c3’s submit requests to The Community Foundation and specify what the money would be used for. Organizations receiving funds this year were: The Beach Kids Foundation, Estero Bay Buddies, The Fort Myers Beach Art Association, The Fort Myers Beach Public Library, The Estero Island Historical Society, Keep lee County beautiful, The Friends of Lovers Key, Bay Oaks, Ostego Bay Summer Camp, FMB Strong, Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve, Support for Sailing and The Mound House and The Marine & Environmental Resources Task Force.
In addition, thousands of dollars were awarded to students for college scholarships. Community Foundation President Julie Fite said the $107,820 given away this year was $14,000 more than last year.
The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation hosts several major fundraisers throughout the year to raise the funds to give away.
