We’re are thrilled to welcome two new residents to the very popular orangutan habitat. Millie and Kapok, a bonded mother-son pair of white-cheeked gibbons have officially moved to Naples from Zoo Miami.
Millie, a 22-year-old female, and her 3-year-old son, Kapok, are settling into their new surroundings at Naples Zoo after previously living alongside orangutans in Zoo Miami. In keeping with that successful cohabitation, renovations were completed to support the needs of both species in this shared space.
“Millie and Kapok are a charismatic and engaging pair”, said Lee Ann Rottman, Director of Animal Programs at Naples Zoo. “Millie is a quiet, observant individual who tends to keep to herself and watch the world from a distance. Kapok, on the other hand, is full of energy and frequently seen tumbling through the habitat or playing with Riplee and Dira, our youngest orangutans. Both are settling in well and have begun forming meaningful connections within our orangutan family.”
Female white-cheeked gibbons are blonde, while males are black, making it easy to distinguish between the
